As I sat at dinner, I was overcome with so many different feelings and concerns. The things on my mind should not be the worries a child my age should have. It had not even been a full twenty-four hours and I was wondering how would I finish school with my friends, was I going to have to get a job and what was going to happen to my mom’s place. Most importantly, where would my brother and I be placed.

I loved my grandma, but I knew deep inside she would not be able to raise my brother and I. She did not have the space anyway for us. She had a very small cozy cottage style home and she was not healthy enough. Since losing my grandpa, she stayed depressed and wasn’t her normal happy self. She had even slowed down on Bingo nights. Grama also lived way outside of our school district. It was pretty much a given to know I would not be living there anymore. To a young girl in high school, it was gonna be hard adjusting to having to move schools and make new friends as I headed to my junior year.

Tysen’s grama was so sweet. She’d lost Tysen’s dad to a drive by four years ago. His dad was a street dude and his uncle as well…. So at any given moment she could lose her other son to the streets too. As they say…..bullets have no eyes. I didn’t want to be split up but it was looking as if though that was going to happen.

The other thing on my mind was where that slick snake was who had killed my mom. I was so puzzled and angry he got away, but he would eventually have his day if it was the last thing I did. Too many people in the city knew and loved my mom. I almost called his Uncle Rashaad and told him to dead that nigga if he saw him. Then, I thought about everything I wanted to say to Rob myself, so I didn’t make that call. I just got on my knees and prayed to the heaven’s above for him to be caught and pay the ultimate price of the death sentence, because he’d taken my mother from us.

He was clearly a coward, and he was not going to outsmart me or anybody else. We were definitely out for blood. He was not going to be able to hide for long and Karma was going to searching for him. I sat there and I guess I appeared to be zoned out instead of eating my food. Auntie Shalomar was trying to get my attention and there was no telling how many times she had called my name.

When I finally heard her, she sat there shaking her head saying she wished she could take all of my pain away. It still really didn’t seem real to me. I was hoping someone was playing a cruel trick on me.
